SGL FlashNet joins leading manufacturers in major turnkey digital project

Southampton, UK
29th November 2004

Software Generation Limited (SGL), a leading provider of video storage management software, has been selected by ATG Broadcast to provide SGL FlashNet as part of a major contract from Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC) to digitise the entire production and transmission of BFBS television services.

A 120 terabyte ADIC Scalar 2K Archive Library will be controlled by SGL FlashNet Hierarchical Storage Manager allowing files to be archived either as a manual process or according to archive rules set within SGL FlashNet. BFBS1 and BFBS2 provide a lifeline to UK military personnel stationed around the world, providing two channels of selected programmes from the major broadcast television channels as well as specially produced programmes and their own news services.

Ingest of programmes will be provided by two Quantel sQ servers under IBIS administration, controlled via record lists from a Provys scheduling system. The system also includes seven Quantel QCut workstations and a DaletPlus Newsroom system.

Alan Pimm, ATG Broadcast Sales Director, commented "We selected SGL FlashNet to control the archive library because SGL has strong links with both IBIS and Quantel with highly successful integration of products providing a scalable application."

Bernie Walsh, Director of Sales and Marketing at SGL. commented "We are delighted to be working with ATG Broadcast on this major installation for SSVC. The project highlights how broadcast experts such as Quantel, IBIS and SGL are able to network their products to provide exceptional end-to-end solutions for their customers."

SGL FlashNet is a leading software storage solution that provides the link between video stored as files on video servers, editing systems and the long term archive library.
