NBC News selects SGL FlashNet for major digital archive project Southampton,
UK Software Generation Limited (SGL), a leading provider of video storage management software, has announced that NBC News has purchased SGL FlashNet for its network news operation in the Rockefeller Center, New York City. SGL FlashNet, which provides the link between video stored as files on a video server and the long term archive library, seamlessly integrates with NBC News' Avid newsroom system forming the middleware between Avid Newscutter and Avid Unity systems and an Adic Scalar 10K archive robotic system. "The ability to move seamlessly between online and nearline without videotape offers a huge advantage in both workflow and cost. We are delighted that NBC has chosen to work with us as part of this effort," explained Bernie Walsh, Director of Sales and Marketing at SGL. At NAB2004, SGL announced a strategic alliance with Avid to produce a fully integrated, end-to-end hardware- and software-based archive storage solution. Under the terms of the agreement, the solution will shortly be available from Avid sales offices worldwide. The fruits of this agreement will be demonstrated by SGL on the Avid booth 7.931 at IBC2004.
#### Additional information: Software Generation Limited is a privately held archive management software company headquartered in Southampton, England. SGL has been in business since 1989 and its flagship FlashNet product is installed in over 5000 customer sites around the world. |
