SGL FlashNet installed as major part of UK broadcaster's new digital video production system IBC,
Stand 8.131e, Amsterdam Software Generation Limited (SGL), a leading provider of content archive and storage management software for media and entertainment, has announced that BBC Wales has installed SGL FlashNet as part of a major digital infrastructure upgrade. The installation sees the corporation's welsh newsroom being controlled by Thomson Grass Valley's Aurora News Production Suite and K2 Media servers for playout. SGL's content storage and archive management software, FlashNet, provides the system's middleware controlling a nearline disk archive and Sony PetaSite, and a smaller CMS20 library, both of which include SAIT tape technology. Material is ingested, edited and archived to nearline disk archive before being moved by FlashNet to the tape library for long term storage. Selected material is duplicated to the CMS20, which is housed in a separate building for disaster recovery purposes. Bernie walsh, SGL's Sales and Marketing Director, added: "This integration with Thomson Grass Valley at BBC Wales further highlights SGL as the leading supplier of content archive and storage management software to major broadcasters worldwide. ### Software Generation Limited is a privately held archive management software company headquartered in Southampton, England. SGL has been in business since 1989 and its flagship FlashNet product is installed in over 4500 customer sites around the world. More information can be found at www.sgluk.com. |
